Welcome from the Editor--Well we’re in the throes of our favorite holiday season and we hope this issue of Capital Living will help put you in the Christmas spirit as well. If you are looking for some gift (more) 'Tis The Season: Look Locally For That Perfect Gift--Since beginning Capital Living seven months ago, we’ve had the opportunity to cover and write about hundreds of stories right here in our community. But, I have to confess that coming up with a capital shopping list just might be one of my favorite assignments. (more) Last Year's Christmas Miracle--The Tree Didn't Burn My House Down--For those of you that know us, you realize that my wife and I come from different backgrounds (very different). Growing up she always had the freshest live Christmas tree in the northern hemisphere delivered to her home via express mail. I on the other hand was an artificial man. I had always been an artificial man because my father (more) Decor and Dudes--This story starts with a bachelor. A real guy who has a great sense of style and excellent taste in his attire and in his personal appearance. He even had moments of amazing (more) Duck Hunting--When my boys were small they came out to the kitchen one Sunday morning when I was fixing breakfast and wanted to know if they could go duck hunting. Todd was about 14 at the time and Joel was around 10. Both had been hunting many times with their Dad and also alone. They had taken gun safety classes (more) WalMart Awards Teacher or the Year-- Kathy Rice, a member of the Special Education Department at Elkhorn Elementary School, was named the 2008 WalMart Teacher of the Year. Local WalMart Manager Steve Luttrell visited the school to present Rice with a check for $1,000 to be used for the schools and a $100 gift card for her. Rice was selected on the basis of student and parent nominations and voting. |
Deck the Halls With a Green Christmas--Before you get all excited about the coming Christmas holiday and go out and buy a sawn off tree, please wait! We all know what that means, the Frankfort Jaycees Christmas Parade! This year’s parade will (more) Thumbing Through...The 2008 Kentucky Book Fair--On November 15, hundreds from throughout the state visited Frankfort to meet authors and take advantage of special bargains at the 27th Annual Kentucky Book Fair. The Book Fair is free and (more) KSP "Puts the Brakes on Hunger" With Franklin County Food Drive--Kentucky State Police (KSP) Commissioner Rodney Brewer has announced that all KSP offices in Frankfort would participate in a food drive to benefit the Franklin County Food Pantry.
